Jail Ministry

The gospel is for all. The gospel is the life-changing, transformative, restoring news that we have hope in our Savior Jesus Christ. In the book of Romans, it says that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39). As the body of Christ, we believe that a prison is not a valid limitation to the gospel’s reach.

At Elm Street Baptist Church, it is on our hearts to bring the message of the gospel out of the church building and into the community. It is our mission to be ambassadors wherever we go or visit; including the local jail. Here’s what an ESBC Jail Ministry Leader has to say:

Dear Website Visitor:

My name is Dennis Lowry, and it has been my pleasure to serve in the Jail Ministry at ESBC under the leadership of Darryl Tipton for 16 years. In those years I have shared the gospel and facilitated Bible studies with men and women ranging from teenagers to grandparents.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.”  Jails and prisons can be dark and depressing places, so that’s why this ministry is so special.  The title of the specific prison Bibles we use is “Free on the Inside.”  And it is our joy to offer  spiritual freedom to those who are incarcerated.

Thank you for reading about this important ministry,

Dennis Lowry
